I bought this MR2 Mk1 as a project in November 2017. It is one of the first Rev B version, registered in November 1986. The car was last owened by a friend of mine who had the car since 1994. Before that, for a number of years the car was stored in his mum's garage and had not moved. When we tried to move it the car had seized brakes and it would not start. So it was delivered to my house on a recovery truck. The work to restore the car is recorded with photographs in the sections below. I decided to keep this car to a factory standard.
Failed Petrol pump replaced and petrol tank painted
Radiator fans replaced
Body Work
A 14 month body work restoration and full respray was done by Saddleworth Motors and completed in June 2020. This included new rear wheel arches, new passenger side outer sill, front spare wheel compartment, new driver side front wing, rust removal around front windscreen.
Restoration of rear bumper. The bumper was cleaned, rust areas cut out and new metal welded. Then painted
Original seats replaced with the nice red/black version from the MK1a model
Engine Work
A 2 year engine rebuilt was done by SBits and completed in December 2023. This was done due to a blown head gasket and included stripping down the engine, sleeving cylinders as oversized pistons are no longer available, new bearings and gaskets etc to make the engine like new.
