As far back as I can remember I always liked cars. As a young boy I used to go and watch rallies with my dad and also helped as a marshall. Also, I always had an interest in engineering and this was influenced by my dad who is an electronics engineer. I used to follow him around and help him from an early age up to when I left for University. He taught me a lot of the basics and how to use several tools.
I learned to drive in my mum's Morris Mini Mk1 and my dad's Ford Cortina Mk2 Estate. I used to park the cars in very tight spots in our back garden as I was practising different manoeuvres. I still haven't told my dad about the day I scratched his Cortina while trying to park near the garage, but I am sure he had it figured out anyway!
I bought my first ever car, a Toyota Corolla 1.6SR when I was a student at Nottingham University, back in 1988.
The car was bought at an auction in London, by a friend of my dad who came from Cyprus to buy a number of trucks.
When I bought it, the car had 120000 miles on the clock and I sold it with over 200000 miles on the clock.
Never had a problem with it, the engine was strong, never burned any oil, never changed the clutch !
At University I studied Electrical and Electronic engineering and finished with a Ph.D in Medical Electronics. I now design software and systems for factory automation.
However, my interest in hands-on engineering was still there and over the last few years have taken the hobby of car restoration

After the Corolla 1.6SR a had a succession of Toyotas:
Corolla GTI Twin-Cam
Celica 2.0 GT
Celica VVTLI 190
MR2 Roadster
Celica GT (with the massive aero wing at the back)
Prius (of course not sporty, but the easiest car to drive with loads of technology)
GT86 (fantastic, waited many years for Toyota to bring out, and I was one of the first to get this car in the UK)
Lexus CT
Lexus NX300h
Prius Plugin - averaged 70 miles to the gallon !
Supra GR - 3.0lt 6 cylinder engine - a big petrol engine before we switch to electric and a real head turner!
